Melissa and Eryn Baugh are the parents of Brandon, the baby who died so tragically when Cathy dropped him.
Any of us facing the loss Mr. and Mrs. Baugh face can only try to imagine the horror, trauma, and anguish they must feel at the loss of their three-month-old son under such terrible circumstances almost thirteen years ago.
If you would like to reach out to them at this time, we suggest that your letter of condolence to them concentrate solely on concern for them in their suffering and the assurance of prayers for them and their family. In our view, it is not fitting to push any kind of agenda, such as trying to convince them to be against the death penalty, or to give them advice, such as "only in forgiveness and reconciliation will you find peace". Few of us have been tested in fire as they are being tested. The sole goal of our letters should be to give the Baughs assurance of community support and prayers.
As Brandon's father, Eryn, said in a recent interview on CBS 42 in Austin: "All of our dreams and aspirations for that child were taken away from us before we even got to know him."
